I'm perplexed and dismayed that you have not answered any of my questions. I think they are worthwhile enough, but like everything in life, I'm sure that's a matter of perspective. I have done something I loathe, which is to lump myself into the category of "Why haven't you answered my question ... (wah, wah, wah) Nevertheless, I suppose I'm now an unworthy member of that esteemed troup. You have never been one to run from the tough questions, it's one of your traits I heavily admire. That said, I believe my question is an extremely tough one because it forces you to consider your profession, art, mortality, and very being. Essentially, I asked whether or not you're concerned about your voice. You have a beautiful, horribly tragic voice. I worry that it cannot stand up to the punishment. You float among the clouds and see, say and do things we all admire, but there is a limit to your physicality. Your vocal cords are human, they have limits. I had made the point that other screechers, Axl, Steven Tyler, clearly have changing voices, though I think your production and artistic value is much higher. (Screechers is not the word I would choose to describe you, but as Chuck Palahniuk said, "It's the first word to come to mind") In my opinion, they have faltered over the years and waned off. I don't' ask this to make an indictment of you - on the contrary, your voice has blossomed nicely, though there is a discernable change from Portrait to today (though, I'm waiting on the "new shit") My question is hybrid of question/concern. I want you to continue your quest of art/expression/battle with harmful religiosity. I want you to continue your songs for years and years. Do you worry you will not be able to perform on the same level 5-10 years from now? I never understood peace and brutality in the same emotion until I listened to your music. That was many years ago and it has been a life changer, strange as that sounds. Enough said. How is your voice? Do you worry as we do? Please, please, recognize your value and take care of yourself. You have vaulted yourself into a special pantheon and we want you around for a long time to come. |
