I'm perplexed and dismayed that you have not answered any of my questions. I think they are worthwhile enough, but like everything in life, I'm sure that's a matter of perspective. I have done something I loathe, which is to lump myself into the category of "Why haven't you answered my question ... (wah, wah, wah) Nevertheless, I suppose I'm now an unworthy member of that esteemed troup. You have never been one to run from the tough questions, it's one of your traits I heavily admire. That said, I believe my question is an extremely tough one because it forces you to consider your profession, art, mortality, and very being. Essentially, I asked whether or not you're concerned about your voice. You have a beautiful, horribly tragic voice. I worry that it cannot stand up to the punishment. You float among the clouds and see, say and do things we all admire, but there is a limit to your physicality. Your vocal cords are human, they have limits. I had made the point that other screechers, Axl, Steven Tyler, clearly have changing voices, though I think your production and artistic value is much higher. (Screechers is not the word I would choose to describe you, but as Chuck Palahniuk said, "It's the first word to come to mind") In my opinion, they have faltered over the years and waned off. I don't' ask this to make an indictment of you - on the contrary, your voice has blossomed nicely, though there is a discernable change from Portrait to today (though, I'm waiting on the "new shit") My question is hybrid of question/concern. I want you to continue your quest of art/expression/battle with harmful religiosity. I want you to continue your songs for years and years. Do you worry you will not be able to perform on the same level 5-10 years from now? I never understood peace and brutality in the same emotion until I listened to your music. That was many years ago and it has been a life changer, strange as that sounds. Enough said. How is your voice? Do you worry as we do? Please, please, recognize your value and take care of yourself. You have vaulted yourself into a special pantheon and we want you around for a long time to come.

Caring one, "Leave your worries at the door!" I have never had a problem and I don't intend to. This new album, I explore several completely different styles of singing. I know now that there will be nothing like it, for better or worse. My vocal cords are still umbilical and I don't plan to cut them.

para-noir --relating to the noir genre films/ pretaining to aggressive characters?

Answered by MM on 02/25/03:

Delusions or expectations suffered by a willing victim and an increasing sense of darkness. This is what the song hints at lyrically. The genre of film "Noir" was very important to all the art we enjoy or are repulsed by today...and is very influential to me as an artist altogether.

Do you remember me?

Answered by MM on 02/25/03:

(TO OTHERS IN ORACLE) I will not print the contents of this message. To mariella36: I want you to know that the song you speak of was written for everyone. I am sorry to say that someone was impersonating me in a chatroom. I am truly sorry I never spoke to you. That doesn't mean you should be upset. I am speaking to you now, and I honestly care about what you said. That song and that record were my survival tools. You can overcome any fear if I did. Thank you for asking me, although I am no hero. And most important---when that song ends, it is not the ending. The "chamber" was empty and seeing death in the face was what made life so much more precious. Everyone is afraid, you are not alone.

From deathskiss on 02/24/03:

Hello again. I thought i'd try asking another question in the hopes you'll see it (third time being the charm and all). I've seen you perform live about 7 times, and was wondering what I can expect to see this summer that I haven't seen before?

Answered by MM on 02/24/03:

The music will be brighter and bigger. The band is my gun and they are as tight as my finger on the trigger. We have wiped the slate clean. All erasers will be dusted and fingernails will be applied to the chalkboard. I will give you kiss, kiss...bang, bang.
