referring to a statement you made earlier,,you said that modern art and realism is more phoney than degenerate art,,in what sense do you think realism is phoney? i'm an artist that does realism, primarily portrait work, and in my experience with it,i have found nothing phoney about it.great time and effort has been put into the work that i do and it's damn good.why can't we appreciate things for what they are,not condemn, for what they are not.i'm just trying to better understand your point of view.

Answered by MM on 02/13/03:

Sorry to generalize. I meant that since cameras were invented, the imagination is free to interpret reality how it wants through impressionism. As you know a picture is no more real than how you picture it in your mind. I respect the classics and admire them.

What does the Dandy think of Joel-Peter Witkin's work? You must see his photography if you havent. I think you might like it. http://www.correnticalde.com/witkin/ Also love the work from your collaboration with HELNWEIN.

A great and depraved visionary. I shot with his son once. I find it rather offensive when directors, other camera-holders and even "musicians" steal his aesthetic freely. Inspiration is growth but imitation is not flattery. I have all of his works. My favorite must be "In Harm's Way."

What are you listening to right now? First they cut you open to see what's inside. Then they get angry because you stain the floor.

Track #15 of The Golden Age of Grotesque. Excuse me, it has just ended and Billie Holiday is here(oin). The blues in a red room makes me so purple. And I do need a carpet cleaner.

Salutations! Have you seen, the Oscar Nominations? Do you think any of the movies nominated deserve to win? Which ones and why? How does it feel to star in a movie (documentary) That is nominated for an Oscar? Will you be attending the awards show? Sorry, that is alot of questions for a busy man with a tall hat to answer...but we will see won't we. Oy Vey, Chelsea Vaughn

Answered by MM with a big hat on 02/13/03:

I don't really watch TV, although I am always watching films. I won't be attending the event, and I don't feel as though I did anything to deserve any awards. I said what I've been saying all along but I'm glad more people finally got to hear me and understand a bit of what I represent.
