| I don't aspire to be a "music video" director, but I plan to do this first one and probably the second one myself. Directing real films, which I have begun (secretly), is my love and true calling I believe. I can paint with sound and shapes and the senses. I am fond of Helnwein's collaboration and I think we are such a dangerous team. |

| Dear Marilyn, i am not sure if you have been asked this before, but what is your opinion on the war 'situation'? I am in Australia, and honestly, i am scared shitless that we are in danger. On the one hand, i know that there must be some way to find Saddam and make him pay for all he has done, but on the other, Bush has been pushing so much, and 'our' prime minister Howard had only asked the opinion of a small majority of our 20million population. | All I can say is that the theatre of the grotesk and vaudeville houses were created to help people's minds escape. Even though things are painted in such ugly media colors to scare and nauseate us---This makes me feel an obligation more than ever to be a magician and make the troubles vanish for a few moments. The sleight of hand. I want to make people feel something that make their lives (and my own) more tolerable. |

| I like the music made there in the days of Zarah Leander as well as the period that Iggy, Bowie and Eno created there. "The Idiot" is one of my favorite albums. The creators were most fearless in the face of danger and I love that. The attraction is visual and emotional and I feel as though I am experiencing similar "artistic" surges and power plugs being yanked out. It is also a metaphor, really. It pertains to several relationships in my past. |
